Plastics.

Most plastics are recyclable- but  in reality local councils only deal in certain types-

Yes to- plastic milk bottles and plastic fizzy drinks bottles (without their lids). Place in the plastic section of your recycling bag/ bins.

If in doubt look for  HDPE  or PET pressed into the base of the container.

This means that it is a polyethylene product.

No  to- , yogurt cartons, plastic flower pots, margarine tubs, ice cream tubs and plastic meat trays -place in the general waste

The dealers that purchase waste plastic won’t buy mixed lots. The flexible plastic used for milk bottles cannot be blended with the rigid plastic used for yogurt cartons. (One is polyethylene based- the other can be polystyrene based.) They are as different as chalk and cheese.

Sort and save tip

Plastic milk bottles make perfect receptacles for home decorating and DIY. Cut away the spout area but retain the lower half together with the handle. This gives you a handy container for mixing and carrying filler. You can also use it as a paint kettle.

 What happens to recycled plastic?

It has many uses including being

     reformed and turned into  garden

   furniture and drainage pipes.
