Paper and cardboard

Districts have their own policies- this is general advice. Newspapers, magazines and papers can be put together in one recycling bag/ bin.

Remove plastic from window letters.

Regular cardboard packaging either has its own separate bin/bag or goes in with garden waste.

Corrugated cardboard contains glue. Some authorities such as Somerset  will collect this with green waste bags. Bedfordshire collects A4 size pieces of corrugated cardboard from kerbside. But many districts require corrugated cardboard to be taken to recycling centres

Take care with the disposal of letters

We all have to be mindful of identity fraud. But it is not always necessary to shred everything.

(Consider the wasted electricity ). With advertisements and circulars simply tear off the part containing your address and destroy this. The rest of the letter can be recycled with the newspapers.

Juice cartons and ‘tetra’ packs

Progress is being made on recycling this type of packaging.  (The foil and plastic coatings contaminate plain cardboard recycling).

Whilst they can’t be put in your home sorting bags/ boxes some councils provide designated collection centres .

Cardboard with plastic windows

Please remove the cellophane from cardboard packaging before putting it with your cardboard recycling.

Pizza boxes and cake boxes are most likely to have them.

Metal or plastic ‘cutting edges’ on foil boxes should be removed.
