Progress on recycling varies from district to district.
Many districts will not take food stuffs in their green waste bin/bag.
In general the green bin/bag is for small branches grass clippings, hedge trimmings and weeds. Large pieces of wood and branches need to be delivered straight to your recycling centre. Apples and fruit windfalls are regarded as food.
‘Green’ waste is then shredded and recycled as compost.
However some progressive districts like East Cambridgeshire in conjuction with contractors like Veolia accept food stuffs in with green waste as long as it is wrapped in paper.

What happens to organic waste?
Viridor and Southern Water have combined to produce a waste fertiliser called Bestway.
This product is ideally suited for the acres and acres used by farmers to grow their crops. Soil erosion by over working fields is a real concern. This waste fertiliser is designed to replenish the soil.
